Just like the back problem is an umbrella term for all spine issues, the term back surgery encapsulates all typed of surgeries to the spine. However, all spine surgeries can be more or less classified into 4 common surgeries which are as follows:

Laminectomy:

The compression of the spine can put pressure on the nerves causing back and leg pain. Laminectomy is a decompression surgery that is performed by removing the lamina (spinal bone) and the ligament, the causes this spinal compression. This compression can also be caused by bulging discs, joints, ligament tissues which are also surgically removed by the spinal surgeon to relieve the pain.

Laminectomy is commonly performed by Spinal Surgeon Mr.Jwalant S.Mehta to relieve pressure on nerves in the back, treat numbness & back pain caused by nerve damage and remove bone spurs.

Spinal Fusion:

Spinal fusion is a surgical procedure that is commonly performed to treat spinal instability problems caused by Scoliosis, degenerative disc diseases or any other severe spinal alignment problems. Spinal fusion is often the last resort and also one of the most effective treatment procedures performed to treat idiopathic, neuromuscular or degenerative scoliosis.

It is commonly performed by Spine Specialist Mr. Jwalant S.Mehta to reduce spinal deformity by straightening the spinal curve, treat spondylosis, spondylolisthesis, spinal stenosis, herniation or other degenerative disc disorders.

Kyphoplasty/ Vertebroplasty:

Vertebroplasty /Kyphoplasty is a procedure that is performed to treat vertebrae compress fractures. When the vertebrae fractures and is left without any treatment, it can result in intense pain and posture deformity. Vertebroplasty is a procedure where the vertebrae are strengthened and bought back to normal position by inserting bone cement into each fractured vertebrae. This procedure further prevents the collapse, treats the fractures and improves osteoporosis conditions.

Discectomy:

Just like Laminectomy, Discectomy is the procedure of removing the material that is responsible for putting pressure on the spinal nerves. It can also involve the removal of herniated side of spinal discs which put pressure in the spine. This procedure is performed to help treat the leg/buttock pain, weakness, and numbness, and mobility, balance issues suffered by patients due to pressure in the nerves.

All the above procedures are performed by a spinal surgeon only when the patient is physically and mentally are healthy to recover from the surgery procedure.
