They aim at minimizing the \u2018<strong>collateral damage<\/strong>\u2019.<\/p>\r\n<p><strong>Traditional spine surgery<\/strong> have been open, in which the area being operated is opened with a long incision allowing the surgeon to view and access the surgical site. Technological advancement and surgeon expertise have made it possible for these procedures to be much less invasive, or as they are called minimally invasive procedures. These are still in development the world over.<\/p>\r\n<h2><strong>Minimally Invasive Spine Surgeries<\/strong><\/h2>\r\n<p>Are one of the major developments in <strong>spine treatment today<\/strong>. These procedures require extensive training by the surgeon and staff. They also call for a special skill set and advanced technical equipment to be done successfully.<\/p>\r\n<p>Minimally invasive approaches have proved to be a boon for patients, as they allow much more complicated surgeries to be done with much less damage. Some advantages are:<\/p>\r\n<ul>\r\n<li>Less infection rates<\/li>\r\n<li>Faster recovery<\/li>\r\n<li>Less collateral damage<\/li>\r\n<li>Less painful<\/li>\r\n<li>Less bleeding<\/li>\r\n<li>Shorter hospital stay<\/li>\r\n<li>Less scarring<\/li>\r\n<\/ul>\r\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.mehtaspine.co.uk\/minimally-invasive-surgery-for-back-pain.php\">Minimally invasive spine procedures<\/a> make use of specialized retractors and working instruments for decompression of neural structures and instrumentation of the spine. The surgeon also uses a microscope to view important structures of spine.<\/p>\r\n<h3>\u00a0<\/h3>\r\n<h3>Two Common Minimally Invasive Procedures Are:<\/h3>\r\n<ol>\r\n<li><strong>Discectomy<\/strong>&#8211; A discectomy is the surgical removal of material that is <strong>pressing a nerve or spinal cord<\/strong> due to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.mehtaspine.co.uk\/blog\/what-is-a-herniated-disc-and-when-does-one-need-surgery-for-herniated-disc\/\">herniated or slipped disk<\/a>. Surgeons use retractors and a microscope to remove the bulging disk. Discectomy is completed using general anesthesia.<\/li>\r\n<li><strong>Spinal fusion<\/strong>&#8211; <a href=\"https:\/\/www.mehtaspine.co.uk\/blog\/long-term-side-effects-and-infection-after-spinal-fusion-surgery\/\">Spinal fusion<\/a> is performed to permanently join two or more motion segments in the spine.
